Gap & Rio film installation

London & Paris

We recently completed an interactive window installation for the internationally renowned retail chain GAP. A custom-written application using a motion capture sensor measures the activity in a defined zone on the sidewalk, to activate game states that are displayed on the video wall.

There are 2 dance zones on the pavement that encourage children to 'Dance here'. When in these zones participants are picked up by the motion capture. Dance meters then appear at the top of the screen and the amount of dancing activates more characters from the RIO film to start dancing across the screen with them. Two children can now compete in a 'dance-off' to reach the maximum dance meter state where streamers and confetti rain on the the characters.

The interactive also features innovative audio technology that turns the whole window into a speaker playing samba music from the film as children dance within the zones. For adults we also installed a 3m x 2m LED video wall playing custom RIO film footage. The LED wall is installed in the adjoining window and uses cutting edge LED panels that are high resolution and daylight readable even direct in sunlight.

The interactive has been drawing huge crowds outside GAP's flagship Oxford Street store in London as children compete against each other to become a 'samba superstar'. The project was simultaneously launched in GAP's London and Paris flagship stores and will run for 1 month
